Varsity

Last week was a crucial series after an off week where the Dragon’s faced off with the defending District Champs Stony Point Tigers. The series started off Tuesday at Dell Diamond where the Dragons battled the Tigers putting a 4 spot on them in the first and never looked back winning 10-6. The next game against the Tigers was a different story on Friday night with a strong wind blowing in, the game started a little slow with the Dragons leading most of the game 2-1 until the top of the 7th where the Tigers found a way to score 2 runs and take the lead 3-2. With one out and runners at first and second, Watts hits a shot that sails over center field clearing the bases and the Dragon’s win 5-3. WOW, what a game!!!

With the Dragon’s up two games on the series, we needed one more from the Tiger’s to complete the sweep. The third game again started a little slow but the Dragon’s found a way to score 3 runs in the third and held that lead all the way until the bottom of the seventh where the Tigers were able to tie it up at three and had the bases loaded with no outs and were looking to steal one away from the Dragon’s. Again, with the bases loaded and NO OUTS, the next hitter hits a sharp ground ball to Hutson who quickly throws home getting the go ahead runner out. The next hitter smokes a line drive to left center and Midkiff comes out of nowhere grabs the ball out of the air and on a dead run makes a perfect throw to home gunning out the tag up runner for the third out. WOW!!!!!! The eighth inning saw both teams with no runs and we go to the ninth where Watts hits a Triple to right and they intentionally walk Turner. Hutson comes up big with a hit scoring Watts and Turner moves to third and later scores on a pass ball putting the Dragon’s up by two and it would stay that way as Turner, who pitched a gem(complete game 9 innings) came in the bottom of the ninth and shut down the Tigers. Dragon’s win and sweep the Tigers 5-3. After this series the Dragon’s who have now clinched a playoff berth will face Pflugerville in a three game series. GO ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JV Maroon

“SWEEP”…yes a clean “sweep” of the Stony Point Tigers. The Dragons start off the first game of the series (4/09) with a tough pitching duel. The Tigers strike first and go up 1-0 after 2 innings. Round Rock pitching shuts them out for the rest of the game and the Dragon hitters get one in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th to take a 3-1 win. In the second game (4/13) the Dragons traveled to Stony Point. The game was more of a hitters game with 26 hits total by both teams. Dragons score big in the 3rd (4 runs) and big in the 5th (3 runs) to seal the win. Dragons win 7-5!!!. The final game(4/14), the Dragons put 2 runs up on the board in the 1st inning and they answered each of the Tiger threats in the 4th and 6th inning. The Dragons “BRING OUT THE BROOM” and Sweep!!!…the Tigers! 4-3.

Get out your brooms!!!!!!! The Dragon Varsity has just finished a great week of baseball. With the Dragons in second place in district 16-5A behind Georgetown which they just finished giving them the series 2-1, the Dragons needed to bounce back and take control of their own destiny. The Lions from Leander came to town trying to steal some victories and push the Dragons further down the district standings. Well, that didn’t happen!!!!!!!! The Dragon’s came out fighting Thursday night at home and hit the Lions hard with a 10-4 win. On Friday night at Lion Field the Dragons were in a close battle until the 5th when the Dragon’s blew up and finished the Lions off with a 9-2 win. Needing to sweep the Lions at Dragon Diamond the boys were once again finding it hard to score in the early innings but never gave up and kept fighting till the end and finally were able to pull ahead and not look back with a 6-2 win completing the sweep of the Lions and with some help from Stony Point the Dragon’s found themselves in FIRST place of 16-5A after the weekend. Next up is our off week which includes a road trip to Lake Travis on Thursday.

GO ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JV Maroon

The Lions score 4 in the 4th and then Dragon pitching shuts them out again for the next 9 outs. The Dragon bats get the job done. Dragons win 5-4. Game three (3/31) Leander waits till the bottom of the 6th to put up 3 runs. Dragons lose 5-2.

GO ROCK!!!!

JV White

The McNeil Mavericks came to town sporting a 13 and 1 record with their
last two games as shut out no hitters from their top ace and left Dragon Diamond
trying to figure out what went wrong. Well, I can give them a hint……..The
Dragons are FOR REAL!!!!!!!!!!

Monday night the Dragons started early and never looked back winning 4-1.
Tuesday was a different story as I feel the Dragons were a little tired after
showing up too early for practice and had time to sit back and relax before the
drive over to McNeil and after a hard fought battle fell to the Mavericks in
seven innings 3-2.

After resting up, Wednesday the Dragons came out hitting on all cylinders.
The boys were not afraid of a guy that previously had two no hitters and showed
all the scouts that came out to see him pitch that they were watching the wrong
group. The Dragons hit him early and often forcing him to leave in the second
inning. The team never let up and finished the Mavericks after six innings by
run ruling them 10-1. What a way to break in that new scoreboard. GO
ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JV Maroon

"McNeil 3 game series". Monday's game was a pitching duel with a combined 23
strikeouts. The Dragons put up 2 runs in the top of the 5th to go up 2-1.
McNeil manages 2 runs on "bunts" in the bottom of the 7th to take the game
3-2. Tuesday's game was the first official Dragons win on our NEW
scoreboard. This was another pitching duel until the Dragons open it up in
the 5th and win the game 5-3. Wednesday's game was highlighted by a 356 ft
homerun by the Mavs in the 5th inning. Dragon bats could not overcome that
big inning and lose 9-2. Dragons now 3-2 in district. Next up: Georgetown
GO ROCK HARD BALL!!!

JV White

JV White met the McNeil Mavericks for a 3 game series this
week and ran into their first district losses.
Although the freshman lost to the two McNeil JV teams made up of mostly
Sophmores and Juniors the Dragons showed their willingness to work in tough
situations and to keep a positive attitude and battle to the end.

Next up, Georgetown! GO ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

The Dragon Varsity only had one game this week due to the rain on Friday but boy
was that one game INCREDIBLE. After giving up 3 runs in the top of the first to
the Warriors, the Dragons started chipping away and scored 2 of their own.
Holding the Warriors to that same 3 count they scored in the first, the Dragons
scored 2 more in the bottom of the second. Each team scored 1 each in the third
and then both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the
Dragons added a run to make it a two run game. Even though the Dragons didn’t
stumble, the Warriors found some way of scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th and
took the lead 7-6. The Dragon’s step up to the plate having been down before and
felt no pressure. The Dragon’s scored the tying run early in the bottom of the
7th and then with one out, finished the Warriors with a 3 run walk off homer.
What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Next up
McNeil……Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday games against the Mavericks at 7pm.

JV Maroon

“Glass half empty or half full???” Pflugerville 3 day/4 game tournament was
completely rained out. But we all know the constant 3 day rain was much
needed. Next game McNeil.

GO ROCK HARD BALL!!!

JV White

The rain was a dampner on JV White’s games this week as their Westlake tournament was cancelled. They were only able to get one game in against Westwood but it was a good one! Dragons started off with a nice first inning with two runs and then jumped out to a huge lead in the 2nd with six runs and never looked back. The Dragons held Westwood to one run, and continued to score with the final large inning coming in the seventh with four more runs for a final game score of 14 -1. Winning pitcher, Jake Mury! Great game Dragons.

Dragons will have their series against McNeil this week – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Check the game details for sites. Come out and support your JV White Dragons!!! GO ROCK!!!

The Varsity stepped it up a notch this week as we knew they would. This team is starting to come together and it wont be long before they have their sights on the post season. I know it’s a little early but I have faith in them. The team chemistry is just starting and we have high hopes for this team. Our district started last Tuesday with a visit to Westwood where the Dragon’s took on a talented Warrior’s team but by the end of the game the Dragon’s were the ones with their heads held high with a huge win over the Warriors. Next up was the Langerhans Invitational Tournament. The Dragon’s took on opponents from across the state and came out of the tournament with a 5 and 1 record with key wins against Midland Christian,Lewisville, Fossill Ridge, Anderson, and Hendrickson. The only loss was with a still sleepy Dragon team against San Angelo Central. Now the true test begins as we start district with upcoming games this week against Westwood on Wednesday and McNeil on Friday. See you at the field!!!!!!!GO ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

JV Maroon

Dragons Chop Down The “Wood” –The Dragon shut down the “Wood” in the top of 5th and then had a 7-run rally. This rally was generated by timely hits and pressuring the Westwood defense with “small ball”. Final: 11-2 Dragons Win! Dragons are (2-0) in district play.

Pflugerville Tourny: 3/1: Game 1: Dragons start off with a win against Stony Point. 11 runs on 11 hits and some strong pitching. Dragons take 11-1 win. Game 2: Eagles 1-hit the Dragons in the second game of double hitter as the Dragons go down 10-0 against Georgetown. Game 3: Dragon get a complete game from pitching, play solid defense and score 7 runs on 12 hits. Dragons beat McNeil 7-2. Game 4: Dragons go “toe to toe” with hard hitting Lake Travis. Cavalier’s seal the win with 8 runs in the 4th inning. Dragons lose 13-8. Please visit the individual box scores for more details.

GO ROCK HARD BALL!!!

JV White

JV White Dragons were at home for their first district game against Westwood and came out with a 5-3 win. Westwood jumped out to a 1 run lead in the first inning, but Round Rock answered in the 2nd with 2 runs to go ahead and added to the lead in the 3rd and 6th. Dragons pitching looked solid and had some great assistance in a double play in the 5th inning. Our next game is at Westwood on Wednesday, March 7th at 6:00 p.m. GO DRAGONS!!!

The Dragon Diamond played host to some of the best High School baseball programs in Texas at this year’s Hardball Classic tournament. The Dragons started the tournament 0-2 with a tough loss to Frenship in a 10 inning game, and then to a talented LD Bell team. The Dragons then bounced back to steal a win away from Waco Midway in the third game played at DELL DIAMOND. With the cold weather early Saturday morning the Dragons were able to warm up quickly after a nice win against Midland but then cooled back off with a hard fought battle lost against Brenham.

The Dragon’s are just getting back into playing sound baseball and we expect great things when district starts up!!!!!!!! Go ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JV Maroon

JV Maroon whittle the “Wood” - While our other teams participated in tournaments this week, the JV Maroon kicked off “District” play and traveled to Westwood. The Dragon quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and then it became a pitching duel between both pitching staffs. The Dragons had good pitching efforts, played good defense and made some great plays in the outfield to “bust up” Westwood rallies. The Dragons won 4-3 and begin district play (1-0). Please visit the individual box scores for more details. Next game: Westwood 2/27.

GO ROCK HARD BALL!!!

JV White

JV White had their first non-scrimmage games at the Cedar Ridge Tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday’s game against Cedar Ridge was a close game that ended tied 6-6. Friday’s game was a win with a run-rule against Temple. On Saturday the Dragons rallied from a 7-0 deficit against Stony Point Tigers to win 12-7. 10 runs were scored by Rock in the 4th inning that had a very impressive two out rally going. The final game against Cedar Ridge was a 12-2 victory that capped off an undefeated weekend for the Dragons! Congratulations to JV White and thank you Coach Elizondo. ROCK ON DRAGONS!!!
